Module-Wise IELTS Tips

Listening Module Tips — Score 8+

1. Predict before you listen

Read questions 30 seconds before audio plays. Predict what type of answer is needed (number, name, date, verb).

2. Focus on keywords & synonyms

The audio uses synonyms of question words. E.g., question says "cost" → audio says "price" or "fee".

3. Write while listening

Don't wait to write — jot answers as you hear them. If you miss one, move to the next immediately.

4. Check spelling & word count

Wrong spelling = 0 marks even if correct answer. Use 10 minutes transfer time to verify every answer.

Reading Module Tips — Score 8+

1. Skim first, read later

Spend 1–2 minutes skimming each passage for structure. Then go to questions and scan for specific answers.

2. Underline keywords in questions

Highlight key terms before reading. Answers always follow the same order as the passage (for most question types).

3. Time management: 20 min per passage

60 minutes = 3 passages. Spend 20 min on each. Don't get stuck — skip and return.

4. True/False/Not Given: be very strict

"Not Given" means the passage doesn't mention it at all. Many students confuse "False" (contradicts) with "Not Given" (absent).

Writing Module Tips — Score 7+

Task 1 Structure (20 mins)

Para 1: Introduction (paraphrase task). Para 2: Overview (2 main trends). Para 3–4: Key details with data. Minimum 150 words.

Task 2 Structure (40 mins)

Para 1: Intro (2 sentences). Para 2–3: Arguments with examples. Para 4: Conclusion. Minimum 250 words. Always write more.

Use varied vocabulary

Don't repeat the same word twice. Learn 10 synonyms for common words: "increase" (rise, surge, soar, climb, escalate).

Proofread last 5 minutes

Check: subject-verb agreement, articles (a/an/the), spelling, paragraph transitions. One grammar error per sentence is okay.

Speaking Module Tips — Score 7+

1. Think in English, not Hindi

Avoid translating from Hindi/Punjabi mentally. Practice speaking English with yourself daily for 20 minutes.

2. Use filler phrases intelligently

Instead of "um" or silence: say "That's an interesting question…", "Let me think about that for a moment…", "Well, from my perspective…"

3. Extend your answers (PEEL)

Point → Example → Explanation → Link back. Never give one-word answers. Always elaborate with examples from your life.

4. Pronunciation > Accent

Indian accent is perfectly fine! IELTS does not test accent — it tests clear pronunciation, stress, intonation, and rhythm.

IELTS Tips — FAQs

Most students need 150–200 hours of structured preparation over 6–10 weeks. With daily practice of 2–3 hours, you can reach band 7+ in 8 weeks. Expert coaching with mock tests cuts this time significantly.

Most Indian students find Writing most challenging (requires grammar + coherent argument). Speaking is second hardest due to nervousness. The good news: both improve fastest with coaching and regular feedback.

Task 2 is worth more (it is worth 2/3 of your Writing score). If you are short on time, spend 40 minutes on Task 2 and 20 minutes on Task 1. Never submit Task 2 incomplete.

Yes, but it is harder and takes longer. Self-study works if you already have strong English. Expert coaching helps you identify specific weak areas and practice targeted exercises. Most of our students who tried self-study first came to coaching after failing to improve by 0.5 band for months.
